January 18, 2011

Korean Air said its A380 launch schedule includes service from New York starting Aug. 2 and from Los Angeles on Oct. 1. The airline will initially fly the A380 from JFK to Seoul three times a week during August and daily from Sept. 1. Los Angeles A380 flights will be daily to Seoul starting in October. Korean Air will be the world’s only airline to offer A380 service from both Los Angeles and New York, and will operate the first A380 from New York to Asia.

“We are excited about the new service and how it will support our mission to serve the Americas,” said John Jackson, Korean Air’s vice president of marketing. “We are devoting the aircraft’s entire second level to 94-lie flat business class seats so it’s going to be a unique experience.” Jackson says that Korean Air’s A380 will be one of the most spacious in the industry. The airline’s A380 will have a total of only 407 seats: 12 first class and 301 economy class seats on the first level, and the 94 Prestige class seats on the upper level.

Korean Air will begin its A380 service on shorter hauls starting June 1 between Seoul and Tokyo and between Seoul and Hong Kong. It plans to expand to Bangkok in July before starting U.S. service in August. Korean Air flight 082 will leave JFK at 2 p.m. and arrive at Seoul Incheon at 5:10 p.m. the following day (due to the international dateline). The return flight will depart Seoul at 11 a.m. and arrive at JFK at 11:55 a.m. the same day.  For the first month, flights will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Oct. 1, A380 flights will be expanded to daily. At LAX, Korean Air flight 018 will depart daily at 12:30 and arrive at Seoul Incheon at around 5 p.m. the following day. The return flight will leave Seoul at 3 p.m. and arrive at LAX at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.koreanair.com.
