Swiss International Sets Upgrade in Business Class

October 20, 2008

Starting in spring 2009, the installation of a new Business Class seat will begin throughout the Swiss International Air Lines long-haul fleet. By the end of next year, about one-third of the long-haul fleet will have the new Swiss Business cabin installed. The new seat fully reclines and has an air cushion feature which offers passengers the opportunity to adjust the level of firmness and comfort at each seating level. The new Swiss Business seat is probably the lightest of its kind. The air cushion alone makes the new seats some 8.8 pounds lighter than they would be with conventional foam padding. The weight reduction will save Swiss over 1.4 million pounds of kerosene a year, and this in turn will lower the company’s annual CO2 emissions by over 4.4 million pounds.

Swiss is offering roundtrip business class fares to select destinations for travel Nov. 20 through Dec. 1, and Dec. 22 through Jan. 9. These special fares are valid for roundtrip travel in Swiss Business from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark and New York’s JFK International Airport to Switzerland and beyond to select destinations. For November travel, the last ticketing date is Nov. 15. For the travel period starting Dec. 22, the last ticketing date is Dec. 15.
