On the Go // Get Elevated in Lake Tahoe

November 16, 2014
Imagine a circuit party with more clothing and higher velocity voila! You have the skiing Nirvana that is Elevation. And true to form, it really is part of a circuit, albeit one where you can say “pole” and be totally on the up-and-up. Starting 12 years ago in Mammoth Lakes, CA, Elevation ski parties snowballed (hee) and branched out to Utah, and next year it really pulls out all the stops by adding Lake Tahoe and the former Olympic playground of Squaw Valley to the mix. Good call: Squaw has 3,600 skiable acres across six peaks, 43 lifts, and over 270 trails, so no matter what your skill level, there’s a soft landing for the inevitable I-meant-to-do-that belly-flop.
Running February 5 – 8 in 2015, Elevation Tahoe will be headed by party-promoter gods Tom Whitman and Flip, and hosted by The Village, an all-suite property that is pretty much the center of town and will be center of the action. February may seem like a long time off, but Elevation has enough of a dedicated following that hotel space goes fast, so this is only of those early-bird things we all need to hop on toute de suite.
So what is on tap? Elevation Tahoe has seven major events crammed into its four days, and that is on top of all the skiing, sledding, and snowboarding going on during the day. Organizers are keeping mum about details, but at night, you’ve got a non-stop roster of parties headlined serious DJ talent out of LA and spiced up by some of the biggest porn stars in the industry (be sure to tip the entertainment — they will be going bare-chested non-stop for four days solid in below-freezing temperatures).
Another major selling point: Unlike your usual circuit bash, however, Elevation has the refreshing reputation of being decidedly low on the attitude-scale. Maybe it is the mercury, or maybe it is because even the best bodies are going to be bundled up under layers of flannel and wool, but ski parties tend to attract a friendlier, less judgey crowd than what you might find in Palm Springs or New York.
And if that still doesn’t do it, there is cheap booze and loads of Jacuzzis. Often in the same vicinity. Do the math.
