Korean Air says it will upgrade its premium class seats starting May when it accepts new B777- 300ER aircraft. The new seats will offer more comfort and space than Korean Air’s current first and business class seating, and plans are to introduce the new seats on the airline’s New York and Los Angeles routes. New first class seats are 27 inches wide, with an 18 inch x 27 inch table for work or meals. Korean Air also is enlarging its individual monitors to 23 inches to enhance the airline’s state-of-the-art AVOD (Audio Video On Demand) system. The seat pitch (82 inches) and 180-degree flat beds remain the same. Korean Air’s new business class seats will be 180 degree lie-flat sleepers, allowing customers to feel as comfortable as first class of other carriers. Current business class seats are 170 degree flat sleepers. Seat pitch and width remain the same. Next generation premium seats will be equipped in the three B777-300 ER aircraft to be delivered this year. Korean Air said it also will attach the new seats into three of its current B-777 fleet and aims to operate a total of six aircraft equipped with the new seats by the end of the year. It gradually will retrofit its entire fleet with the enhanced premium seating. Korean Air also will attach the new seats into A380 and B787, environment-friendly next generation aircraft to be delivered in 2010.
