This might have been one of the most heartfelt, and unique, holiday surprises ever produced by an airline.
Knowing that many people travel solo during the holidays, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines decided it was going to bring together a diverse group of passengers at its terminal at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
The unique catch was, KLM didn’t want to just put people in a common area or at restaurant tables seating two or four people. So it created the Bonding Buffet, a table with a full-blown Christmas dinner on top of it towering in the air and more than 20 seats for travelers. But to get the table to come down to seating level, the passengers needed to work together and recruit fellow travelers to sit on the stools around the table. Each stool that was occupied began to bring the table down a little bit at a time until finally dinner could be served.
