El Al Launches New Budget Carrier

El Al launched a new low-fare carrier called UP. The new airline was launched with 50 weekly nonstop flights between Israel and five European destinations with introductory fares starting from $69-$99.

UP will initially fly to Berlin, Budapest, Kiev, Prague and Larnaca. Scheduled flights will begin March 30, 2014. They will use Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The flights will be offered with reduced introductory fares for flights March 30-June 30, 2014.

The new airline will offer two classes of service, Economy and Economy Class Plus, with extra leg room and reclining seats.

Fares are also offered in two types. Up Smart includes flexible ticket conditions, access to the EL AL premium class King David Lounge at Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel, free airport check-in, baggage allowance and advanced seat selection up to four hours prior to departure.

The budget class UP Basic allows the passenger to choose with services are wanted and to pay fees for those that are chosen. Services available for a fee include baggage allowance, in-flight refreshments, advanced seat selection, check-in at the airport and changes in the flight ticket.

UP Basic tickets are non-refundable. UP Basic passengers may upgrade to an Economy Class Plus seat for an additional $80 one way or a Preferred Seat with extra leg room for an additional $50 one way.
