The madness of pre-Thanksgiving air travel just got a little bit more bearable thanks to a tech-filled freebie.
Through its travel partnerships, Verizon Wireless is offering free Wi-Fi across a variety of airports and airlines on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, whether you are a Verizon customer or not.
A time to be grateful, indeed.
“Connection Day” by Verizon is coming with plenty of extra gravy. Anyone flying through an airport with Boingo Wi-Fi will receive free Wi-Fi (minutes of free Wi-Fi depends on the airport).
Airlines that carry Gogo Wi-Fi will offer 30 minutes of free Internet access to passengers traveling between the United States, Mexico and Canada. Participating airlines include American Airlines, US Airways, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air Tran, United Airlines and Virgin America.
And JetBlue customers will be particularly happy to know that the carrier’s Fly-Fi service will be free from the day before Thanksgiving to the end of the year.
“We hope that not only our customers, but everyone, will take advantage of this day—a day to connect with family and friends, to learn something new about their device, or just to provide a little more entertainment during what can often be a hectic kick off to the holiday season,” Ken Dixon, Verizon Wireless vice president of marketing, said in a statement.
Verizon will also be offering a variety of treats beyond free Wi-Fi. That includes access to blockbuster TV shows and movies through the FiOS Preview app; special digital offers on iTunes; the latest digital issues of Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, Wired and more; a seven-day free (and ad-free) trial of music service Pandora One; and free digital content from Amazon such as songs, audiobooks and apps.
If you are a Verizon customer, you essentially get the turkey leg at the dinner table. Beyond the gifts Verizon is serving across the board, you also receive a special free gift by signing in as a My Verizon or My Business customer.
As travelers become more tech-savvy, Verizon’s latest offer not only figures to make the busy holiday season more comforting, but it also figures to draw a fair amount of positive publicity to the company.
Now all you gotta do is show Grandma how to use the Internet.
