China and Taiwan Now Connected by Direct Flights

March 17, 2009

For the first time in over 60 years, direct flights have been resumed between Taiwan and Mainland China. Until recently, to travel between Taiwan and Mainland China travelers had to fly to a neutral country. Now there are direct flights from Taiwan to Beijing or Shanghai as well as other cities in Mainland China. China’s two major international airlines, China Airlines and Eva Air, have over 100 flights a week. China Airlines now flies direct from Taiwan to six cities in Mainland China (Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Guangchou and Nanking). Eva Air flies from Taiwan direct to five cities in Mainland China (Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.) For more information, call the Taiwan Tourist Office at 212-867-1632; China Airlines at 917-368-2083 or Eva Air at 201-626-4077, or visit eng.taiwan.net.tw/lan/Cht/search/index.asp.
