Aerolineas Argentinas on Aug. 29 became an official member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance. The flag carrier of Argentina becomes SkyTeam’s first South American member and 18th member overall, building on a strategy to offer customers access to an extensive global network.
From its home base in Buenos Aires, Aerolineas Argentinas flies to 18 international destinations in Europe, the South Pacific and the Americas. Along with Austral Lineas Aereas, Aerolineas operates flights to 34 destinations in Argentina, flying to more cities in Argentina than any other airline. As part of SkyTeam, Aerolineas customers can reach the world through connections on Delta and the other 16 SkyTeam members, accessing SkyTeam’s over 993 destinations worldwide.

Prior to joining SkyTeam, Aerolineas Argentinas embarked on a turnaround program that included newer aircraft, revised branding and significant product enhancements. In May Delta Air Lines and Aerolineas announced the introduction of reciprocal accrual and redemption benefits for Delta SkyMiles and Aerolineas Plus members. Delta customers have the ability to earn and redeem SkyMiles on the Aerolineas Argentina’s flights as well as access to its brand new airport lounge in Buenos Aires.

“Joining SkyTeam is a great opportunity to expand Aerolineas Argentinas’ global network, and will also offer SkyTeam customers new destinations throughout Argentina and South America,” said Mariano Recalde, president of Aerolineas Argentinas. “Becoming a SkyTeam member is integral to our strategy for growth as we look forward to a future of cooperation with our alliance partners, offering Aerolineas Argentinas’ customers access to hundreds of destinations around the world.”
