AAdvantage Reduces Mileage Accrual for Non-Elite Members

October 30, 2008

American Airlines’ AAdvantage program has changed its mileage accrual policy for non-Elite AAdvantage members as a cost-saving initiative. Currently a non-Elite AAdvantage member (one who is not AAdvantage Gold, Platinum or Executive Platinum) receives a minimum 500 miles for a flight, regardless of how many actual miles it is. However, beginning Jan 1, 2009, non-Elite members will earn the actual miles flown instead of the minimum 500. This change will not affect Elite AAdvantage members. As an example, a flight from DFW to AUS is 183 miles. Right now, if you are a non-Elite AAdvantage member and flew round-trip from DFW to AUS, you would receive 500 miles for the outbound flight and 500 miles for the return. Beginning in January, passengers will accrue 183 miles for the outbound and 183 miles for the return. For more information, visit www.aa.com/aadvantage, and click on AAdvantage News and Information.
